Bernhard Willhelm

Bernhard Willhelm was born in Ulm, Germany and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He assisted Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Dirk Bekkembergs, and Walter van Bereindonck during this time. Bernhard Willhelm founded his eponymous label with business partner Jutta Kraus in 1999 and presented his first women's collection in Paris. The first Bernhard Willhelm store opened in Shibuya, Tokyo at PARCO in 2006, designed in collaboration with Cyril Duval. His line is carried in stores all over the world, including Maryam Nasseir Zadeh in New York, Creatures of Comfort in Los Angeles, Le Bon Marché in Paris, and The Convenience Store in London.

Willhelm's use of color and pattern may be crazy, but it makes for beautiful and artistic creations.
The pieces that are sold on his website are more toned down and much more wearable, though they are quite pricey.

"Shyaiko" Dress

This dress is one of Willhelm's more wearable creations, yet it certainly doesn't lack in the creativity department. The marker-colored vibe makes the piece feel very one-of-a-kind and the combination of salmon pink and this deep shade of blue looks beautiful together set against off-white.

"No.85 Bag"

This bag feels like it was lifted right out of a fairytale. Despite the intricate work done on the surface, the silhouette is casual and slouchy and would make for a good tote; the contrast works well. One of my favorite details here is the subtle knots.
